Texas Childrens's Hospital

This week we went to Houston for Luke's MRI and CT scan. MRI was scheduled for 2:30 and the CT was scheduled for 4:00. Luke couldn't eat food past 7am and not clear liquids past 11. We thought we were all going to be measureable, buthe did great without eating.

We got called into the (first) prep room early, people were not showing up for their appointment. Once we got in there and his medical history was taken we had to wait....for about an hour....in a small room.... There was a tv for him, but that did not last long.

He lotioned his hands and put chapstick on while watching Cat in the Hat. Also played with everything in the room.

We eventually got sent to the MRI prep area. This was were the IV was placed. He did not like that of course, plus Justin was holding him down. He didn't like that just as much. Once he was calmed down they took him to the CT. It was open, so they rushed us over ahead of schedule. During the CT he was strapped to the table with blankets and towels shoved around so he wouldn't move. We each held a hand and talked to him, but it did no good. He screamed his head off the entire time! These pictures are from the IV.

The CT was about 10 minutes. Once done with that they gave him his sedation meds for the MRI. He was given Propofol. Since Roscoe just had surgery I was familiar with this drug.
Yes, they were given the same drug. I know this is probably pretty common, but I thought it was odd. Oh, this was also Michael Jackson's drug of choice....
Propofol is used because it works quickly, they come out of it quickly, and not much sickness occurs.
The MRI takes about an hour, we sat in the waiting room until he went to recovery. Once in recovery he had to drink some clear liquids and have his blood pressure checked then we could go home. He was very loopy in recovery, funny actually. He would try to stand and hold his head up, but he couldn't do anything. Here are pictures once leaving the hospital....still drugged up.

Ince in the car he was able to eat some food and had a bottle. By this time it had been about 8 hours since he had food. When we got home he stayed up a little later than normal, I guess sinc ehe had a good nap earlier. :)

The MRI and CT scans results have come in and they showed nothing unexpected. That is not much new information, however the dermatologist has sent the MRI to a neurosurgeon for review. This cyst is not common, therefore she likes more opinions. She said we should hear something by the middle of next week. Then we will schedule his surgery consult. We are hoping surgery can be in July.

We found this on him a few hours after the tests were done, OOPS.
